Beckie Harmon, a New Bern native, has been practicing yoga for 12 years. Beginning her practice with an intro course to many different schools of yoga during her first semester at the University of North Carolina in Asheville NC, she then graduated with a BA in Photography and k-12 Art Education. Beckie joined Americorps Project POWER and served for 2 years in community growth and development programs. Leaving Asheville soon thereafter to work at a school in Bangkok Thailand, she traveled in southeast Asia and then committed herself to a poverty initiative, LIFT the Bronx, in New York City. She reconnected with her high school sweetheart and relocated back to New Bern, NC marrying him in the fall of 2014. Here, she began teaching art at Creekside Elementary School and then moving on to take a full time assistantship position with Altrius Capital Management.
Beckie has shaped her yoga practice all over the country and all over the world. She is fascinated with dropping in on all spectrums and schools of yoga and learning from her experiences. She has practiced along side 400 New Yorkers in old warehouses shoulder to shoulder to techno music, as well as, in bamboo huts raised in the rice fields of Bali, Indonesia with a well respected Gurus. Her style is varied and accommodates all levels of what her students need and where their focus for their practice lies.
Although she has been practicing for 12 years, it was Hope Bucher with A Hopeful Balance that encouraged her to take her love for the practice to the next level and become an instructor. Beckie began the 200 hr RYT program in January with Open Studio Yoga and is licensed through Yoga
